At Rosherville we are dedicated to preparing our children for life in the 21 Century through our broad and creative curriculum. Children are equipped with the skills, attitudes, knowledge and understanding they need to excel in and beyond their education. This includes a spiritual and moral framework on which to explore and base their opinions and understanding of how civilized society functions and the rules and laws that operate for their freedom and protection, enabling our children to make informed decisions in a safe and supported environment.
Through our PSHE curriculum, supported by our Christian whole-school ethos, we ensure that there is no discrimination against any individual or group, regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, political or financial status.
The Government emphasises that schools are required to ensure that key ‘British Values’ are taught in all UK schools.
The five British Values are:
- The rule of law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect
- Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
All of these areas are explored in detail through our British Values curriculum, Religious Education, E-safety and SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) programmes which run throughout the year in each year group and are supported by our assembly themes. Children are encouraged to look at the similarities and differences of others within a culturally diverse community and to share and discuss their views and opinions; therefore promoting mutual respect. A variety of festivals are also celebrated throughout the year.
In addition to this, democracy is further demonstrated through the School Council who play a key part in school development, enabling all children to have a voice in school matters, either as an elected member or through school council class meetings.
